What is an emergency move?

A carefully planned transfer of a patient

A move in which the patient is dragged from a dangerous scene

An emergency move is characterized by the need for immediate action to ensure the patient’s safety during critical situations, typically when there is an imminent danger present, such as fire, explosion, or any other potential threat to life. This type of move is not conducted with careful planning or concern for the patient’s injuries, but rather focuses on getting the patient to safety quickly. By dragging or otherwise quickly transferring the patient from a dangerous scene, the primary objective is to minimize the risk of harm to the patient due to the surrounding hazards.

In contrast, carefully planned transfers (which would relate to a more systematic approach) account for the patient's condition and the best way to move them to prevent further injury. Methods that provide comfort during transport or reassess the patient's conditions occur after ensuring the patient's safety and are not what defines an emergency move.

A method to provide comfort during transport

A move to reassess the patient's condition
